To A New Friend

The hen down the road,
laid an egg which was sold,
to an aloof young boy
who appeared to be old.
He carried the egg
into the cave
where he decided to scramble it up
on a hotplate with steak.

The cave became dark and dreary
and the egg became to heavy too carry,
so the boy soon walked out onto the hill
where he sat the egg down
and politely asked, “may i call you Bill?”
The egg answered, “yes of course,
as long as you will not eat me still?”
So the boy was out of a meal,
but he gained a new friend,
which was a greater steal.

Their friendship lasted for many years to come
until the egg hatched into a chickadee
in the bright and early sun.

And then a whole new world had just begun.

For the man with the tan grew it on this vine.
It’s not much to look at but it tastes mighty divine.”

The spoon had turned blue
and became sick with the flu.
The lamb came back round and smashed it in two.
The rat scattered in with a big ‘ol grin
and fixed him right up with his bag of glue,
only to ask, “how do you do?”

during a tornado storm,
in the middle of june.
“Well how bout that”,
said the giraffe.
He looked for it everywhere for his hat he must have.
Riding around on a bike made for two,
he felt so alone without the hat he once knew.
His friend the rhino
pulled up on his jeep
to help find the hat,

As he rolled back down to the town which he came
amidst the dirt path the hat had laid.
So he shouted up to the giraffe,
“hurry, hurry, come down here fast.”

and there it was, the hat he adored.

He picked up his hat
and on top of his head it went.
Two friends united at last,

Suzie flew back
into the sack
filled with mice and even rats.

She screamed and ran
out to the damn
where she caught the first ferry
to anywhere else land.

For Carol

The squirrel in the barrel,
who we like to call carol,
woke up to say, “what a beautiful day.”

She wobbled around with her nose to the ground,
looking for something that was not to be found;
she had awoke with a smile, but now wore a frown.

While sitting amuck
she was crossed by a duck.
He was a strange little guy
who wore a patch over one eye,
but it appears that he brought her some luck.

She found her surprise,
which had been disguised,
as a fruit eating fly.
He was a close friend,
that she met at the bend,
and had returned in the end.

Carol’s day ended well
so goodnight and farewell.
